'My forehead spreads with a subtle pallor of separation; my arms, / like fine bamboos chosen and cut from the copse of a broad mountain, / wither and lose their shapely beauty; daily, / I constantly think upon that man’s character'— / lament not so without ceasing! May you live, my friend! He will unite [with you]— / leaving lustrous-jointed, fine bangles to loosen, seeking wealth, / traversing the wasteland tract of the large-handed bear, / who—as the bewildered folks of the small village on the great mountain, / who dwell near the path on the dry-topped njemai-tree heights, / wishing to hear the roar of the mighty male tiger, / set ready their arrows, rest their strong bows upon their necks, / and wander into every spot— / eats not the fallen lower fare, but climbs the dark-branched mahua tree / to feed on the honeyed hollow flowers that resemble ripe fruits on the upper branches!
