'On the broad field where two great kings contest, / victory abides with those possessors of wealth who, holding a single army, / turn back the oncoming army,' so saying, / warding off the battle-drum that sounded the taking of flower-wreaths, / unaware that we are setting out, / while the harsh-voiced cloud in the morning sky roars and pours down rain, / causing the mature, straight-stemmed vines of the forest jasmine to put forth shoots, / she becomes helpless at every rumble, cowers, is angry with us, / with her body bearing the pallor of separation that brought deep affliction; / how will she fare— / she of the dark complexion, of few and gentle steps, / walking upon the broad expanse of fine sand, / with spotless beauty-spots budding on her bosom / in bright hues resembling the fallen fragrant blossoms of the kino tree?
