With a boar of coarse bristles like bamboo roots
and sharp, prominent tusks like diamond,
having drunk from a full mountain-pool like the skin of a drum,
having gorged on clump-like, rich tubers of the broad-leaved taro resembling sapphire,
descending sequentially from rocks that look like sleeping female elephants,
to a stream with welling waters like a river,
in thick bushes of dense branches, like herons perched,
brushing against shaking clusters of blooms from the white kūtāḷam whose rich buds have opened,
so that pollen scatters like streaks of gold rubbed on a touchstone, lovely to behold,
grazes on the ripening ears of densely grouped, tender millet
and sleeps delightfully—with the man of such a good mountain land
you united with full heart; and united with your companion,
without losing the rounded beauty of your bamboo-like arms,
may you live forever in this world without decay! O confidante!
Thinking, 'The cold chill of the early winter season, at dawn
when the storm cloud has poured down noisy rain without distinguishing between day and night,
is hard for those who are alone,'
he knows not separation even in his dreams; what is more,
by his noble nature, he shows even greater grace hereafter
than on the day he first saw her.
