Leaving my shining bangles to slip loose as I languish,
and the dark beauty of my well-formed, bamboo-like shoulders to fade,
with a heart utterly at a loss, having abandoned us,
as if possessed of a sweet life of iron,
resolutely, my lover was able [to go]. Across the wasteland of summer
where the stone-strewn expanses are scorched devoid of moisture,
where the grain-bearing tall bamboos with withered lush culms
break under the speed of arrows from boisterous warriors,
where the skies have dried up, on high summits devoid of cascades,
he crossed the lofty craggy mountain
along with leafless silk-cotton trees blossoming in profusion,
like the lamps of a great festival.
