வானம் வேண்டா வறனில் வாழ்க்கை

the broad leaves on tall stalks of the blooming lotus rise above the water,
shaking the large pool, and as often as the wind strikes them,
they flap like the ears of a great bull elephant.

They say his wedded wife sulks with me,
though he has not broken my dense bangles
like Pōr of the Kāvērī region belonging to Paḻaiyaṉ
of the raining arrows and the rain-cloud shield, with victorious spear!

who joined him to turn pallid, is himself sufficient
as an enemy living right with her.
