கூறுக மாதோ, நின் கழங்கின் திட்பம்;

Saying, ‘My broad-shouldered young daughter who crossed the difficult wilderness tract
comes now with the young hero bearing a well-wrought spear,’
her mother paints with red ochre the finely crafted rampart,
spreads fresh sand in the house, hangs up flower garlands,
and rejoices, making merry celebrations, they say. And I,
even if he has no mercy toward the friendship that gave birth to her,
this gentle, good maiden with the gaze of a female deer,
yet does he not have a duty to assist with the beauty we nurtured,
combing the hair of that simple girl of sweet smiles for many days
and guarding her waist as she grew?
If only that were known, it would be well indeed.
O Velan of ancient wisdom, who knows what will happen,
with a single great topknot that absorbs garments,
and a staff with several curved heads hanging small pouches!
Tell us with certainty the verdict of your molucca beans:
In this night weeping with unending cold dew,
so that our eyes suffering ceaseless sorrow may fall asleep in sweetness,
will he bring her first to our house?
Or will he lead her straight to his own house? What is his intention?
