'Shall we speak? Or shall we not speak?' / unable to restrain her hidden passion, / trusting the good words we lovingly sent, / she concealed the great rain in the midnight hour, / her hair fragrant with seasonal scents, / her chest adorned with fine threads of pure workmanship clinging [to mine], / like a simple peacock surrounded by young clouds on a mountain, / as bees followed her trail, grazing on cool blossoms, / restraining her lovely anklets curved like a bow / with fine, bent bells, she came in dread, / and having embraced me at the midnight hour when the town slept, as she departed, / she of ripe chastity, mature and exalted, / is not a mere dark-complexioned maiden! / In the southern, sacred mountain of goodly Āay, / on the awe-inspiring mountain slope named Kaviram, / dwelling in the pool filled with beautiful flowers, / she is indeed a celestial nymph of Sūr!—so says my heart.
