Lord of the country where, on the slopes of the hill with bright white cascades, / an elephant bleeding from deep wounds from vanquishing his enemy the tiger, / making secure his herd of tender female elephants with soft heads, / raises his trunk and sighs among the stony slopes, / so that the fragrant blossoms of the kino tree with fine clusters burst forth / like sparks from a blacksmith's bellows-blown hearth, / and leap together like many small fireflies / onto the sapphire-hued dark bushes! / Aside from ourselves, could there be anyone else / who swims the deep afflictions of agonizing longing for you / as you come, without considering [the danger], / on the narrow path of stony trails spread with dense darkness, / accompanied only by your spear, with an unflagging resolve, / across the fearsome wide expanses where harsh thunder claps / slicing off the hood of the spotted snake at midnight?
