Having gone and completed our task in the vast, great camp / of the battle-toiling, victorious Vaḻuti with stirring steeds / and an ocean-like army beneath a never-failing white parasol / that shades the whole world together—even today, / in the lovely woodland that has welcomed the rain of the dark clouds, / flocks of fine-winged, swarming bees / hum in the evening redolent with fragrant jasmine: / look there, the season has arrived! Hasten swiftly, / go, charioteer! May your well-crafted, tall chariot drive on, / so that I may attain the pair of shoulders of the girl with bright bangles, / whose tresses carry the fragrance of the groves / of Sirukuṭi belonging to Vāṇaṉ, with gardens of ripe paddy, / where the muffled-mouthed drum of the white-paddy reapers / scares away the birds resting in ponds of many blossoms.
