'With hearts free of deceit, like those who are close / in an ancient friendship where lives are blended into one, / O fair maiden! We will never part from you,' / he said to make me believe, with a mind skilled in lies; / having proved to be one of unresolved resolve, even though now / he has abandoned me to weep, with disease-filled sorrow / and pallor spreading across my forehead, / may he himself easily attain vast wealth / to give delight and celebrate fine feasts in a prosperous town, / like the renowned, great city of gardens by the Kāvērī river / amidst the wide backwaters blooming with flowers, / belonging to Kiḷḷi adorned with golden ornaments, who desired to seize the land / and crushed the shining army of the resource-rich Kōcar / whose truthful words are enduring and of far-reaching fame— / having crossed the wasteland tract of strange tongues / blocked by the difficult mountain path of piled-up boulders, / where, dispersing the dark gloom in the chill season when rain pours down, / on the shaded mountain slopes where tall bamboos rise high, / down from lovely crests where mountain cows roam and climb / so that rut from the temples of musth elephants sheds, / fragrant blossoms of the newly blooming kino tree fall / resembling the striped skin stripped from a tiger, while in great vigour / a herd of male antelopes leap up to the great rising branches / and bound around calling out!
