‘My arms have lost their ancient beauty; daily
my mother too is plunged in cruel grief; the public scandal
is louder than the roar on the battlefield of Ālaṅkāṉam,
where Ceḻiyaṉ of the well-made chariot, with stout arms like pestles,
the king of the southern realm with his gold-adorned, tall chariot,
crushed down and overcame the seven allied rulers!’—
do not despair, live long, my friend!
Even if he has crossed the rocky defiles and gone beyond Vēṅkaṭam,
the tall, bamboo-clad mountain of Pulli who fights fierce battles with dark elephants,
rare indeed is it that he would exceed self-restraint and not remember
your beauty, like the much-praised statue
fashioned by the steadfast gods
upon Kolli of yielding jackfruit trees with red roots,
which Kāri of the warrior's anklet and red spear, king of Muḷḷūr,
killed the mighty-bowed Ōri of never-fading, fine renown,
and gifted to the Cēra rulers!
