The lord of the shore—where a great fish, wounded by the thrown lance
of cruel-hunting fishermen from low-thatched huts,
gives off bleeding gore that stains the stinking sea with spots,
and leaps like a rainbow adorning the sky, churning the deep expanse
of rolling waves with green spray, losing its strength,
and moves toward the cluster of fishing boats—
when he came here at midnight, thinking of our bamboo-like shoulders,
greatly praised the beauty of the vast shore in our seaside grove
and lauded it unceasingly; but now,
having turned away from the bed on his gentle chest,
we have heard many say, my friend:
‘He says it is hard to journey, as swift chariots are blocked
by the fine, low boughs of the screw-pine!’
