Beyond Vēṅkaṭam with high white cascades
whose hard-to-climb tall peaks are crawled over by gathered clouds,
belonging to the Toṇṭaiyar of victorious war and work-trained elephants—
in the land of the Vaṭukar who eat white fat,
wear on their curling black hair, attracting bees,
fresh-cut leafy adhirai flowers that blossom at daybreak,
and offer morning sacrifices with fully matured toddy
for the lovely large herds of cattle captured on the battlefront—
though he chose to depart, not considering as long
the flaming, difficult wasteland with endless paths devoid of water and lost of cooling shade,
yet when the day passes and the sun with drawn-in rays sets,
in the wide burnt forest where wind enters and huge trees are felled,
where gems resembling sparks of fire gleam on the western Kolli hill
of the victorious Vāṉavaṉ,
he would never tarry there, even if he were to attain
the rare world of the worthy along with ambrosia,
abandoning [her], ruining the immense beauty of her plump arms with drooping joints
resembling the curvature of the bamboo,
forgetting union with her tender nature
and hair rippling like the layered black sand
patterned by the flowing currents of the sparkling Kāvērī
of the Cōḻas of upright swords and triumphant victories,
whose broad hands wearing slipping bracelets bend down to pour gifts into vessels.
