'May you swiftly be victorious!'—such a blessing
upon you whose departure is magnificent,
as you hold the well-fashioned spear in your right hand,
with a mighty heart desiring enterprise and resolute
to head toward the land of diverse foreign tongues
beyond the hill with obstructive peaks,
would indeed be good, if only those who remain behind
were able to dwell here with a heart mourning for the departed—
there in that place where men bound to service with well-trimmed arrows,
unswerving harsh eyes holding bent bows,
and untaught vision biting the bent fingers
should the aimed arrow miss its mark,
have slain travellers and raised fearful stone mounds,
where male vultures with sharp tips and red mouths assemble,
touching the fresh heads of corpses,
pressing their abundant clustered claws, taking out eyeballs
and pouring them into the wide beaks of their females.
