பட்டனம் ஆயின், இனியெவன் ஆகியர்;

A bard's daughter taking fish with a fine stringed rod / catches a varāl fish on the banks of clear deep waters, / roasts it over vañci firewood, and feeds it to her father / who sits having drunk liquor strained with fibre. / The women of that man from the cool-shored town, they say, / 'speak ill of us as they please.' If we have incurred such public gossip, / what does it matter anymore? / Like the great elephant's distress when Ātaṉ Eḻiṉi, / ruler of Celli of overflowing new wealth, / where many young Kōcar folk wear garlands woven with ñāḻal plucked by sea-bathing women, / kuvaḷai cut by field-ploughmen, / and mullai blossomed in the protected scrublands, / drove his white spear with closely-fitted ferrule, unyielding when hurled, / into its formidable breast, / surely they will suffer when we go to their settlement!
