ஊருஞ் சேரியும் உடன்இயைந்து அலர்எழத்,
தேரொடு மறுகியும், பணிமொழி பயிற்றியும்,
கெடாஅத் தீயின் உருகெழு செல்லூர்க்,
கடாஅ யானைக் குழூஉச் சமம் ததைய
மன்மருங்கு அறுத்த மழுவாள் நெடியோன்
முன்முயன்று அரிதினின் முடித்த வேள்வி,
கயிறுஅரை யாத்த காண்தகு வனப்பின்
அருங்கடி நெடுந்தூண் போல, யாவரும்
காண லாகா மாண் எழில் ஆகம்
உள்ளுதொறும் பனிக்கும் நெடுஞ்சினை, நீயே
நெடும்புற நிலையினை, வருந்தினை ஆயின்,
முழங்குகடல் ஓதம் காலைக் கொட்கும்,
பழம்பல் நெல்லின் ஊணூர் ஆங்கண்
நோலா இரும்புள் போல, நெஞ்சு அமர்ந்து,
காதல் மாறாக் காமர் புணர்ச்சியின்,
இருங்கழி முகந்த செங்கோல் அவ்வலை
முடங்குபுற இறவொடு இனமீன் செறிக்கும்
நெடுங்கதிர்க் கழனித் தண்சாய்க் கானத்து
யாணர்த் தண்பணை உறும் எனக் கானல்
ஆயம் ஆய்ந்த சாய்இறைப் பணைத்தோள்
நல்எழில் சிதையா ஏமம்
சொல்லினித் தெய்ய, யாம் தெளியு மாறே.

As town and settlement together joined and scandal arose, / wandering with his chariot, speaking humble words, / like the sacrificial pillar, hard to guard and fine to behold, / its base bound with ropes, [from] the sacrifice performed / with early endeavor and difficulty by the tall one with the battle-axe, / who cut down the line of kings till the rutting elephants broke in clustered battle / in formidable Cellūr of unquenched fire— / that chest of splendid beauty which no one could behold, / whose great branch trembles whenever I think of it: / if you, standing long in the yard, were distressed, / tell us now, assuring us, so we may be clear, / of that safeguard that does not destroy the fine beauty / of her bent-wristed, bamboolike shoulders chosen by the seaside grove's maiden companions, / saying it will reach the fertile, cool wetlands, / with woods of cool sedge in the fields of tall stalks of grain, / where the straight-sticked, beautiful net drawn from the dark backwaters / gathers curving-backed prawns and schools of fish, / in beloved union with unchanging love, / settling the heart like the great birds that do not fast, / there in Ūṇūr of ancient, abundant paddy, / where morning tides of the roaring sea surge round.
