Drinking the clear liquor of toddy ripened from buds, / heaping sand brought to the well-made, fine house, / saying, 'This is the wedding of our daughter with thick hair!' / our kinsfolk celebrated the marriage; therefore, / with the youth with dark chin-hair who agreed in heart, / his newly crafted, white spear with a red blade, / gathering the tender leaves and sweet-dripping, soft clusters / of the thick-trunked bur-flower tree with curved, abundant branches, / to adorn your cool, fragrant hair-knot— / to go into the difficult wilderness, / where bamboo has lost its beauty in the rain-high, wide expanse, / where the dark cow-elephant flees in terror / as the wide-mouthed tiger, missing its prey of a bull elephant, / roars in extreme, burning fury in the grove— / I have resolved to set out with him.
