செல்க, பாக! எல்லின்று பொழுதே- வல்லோன் அடங்குகயிறு அமைப்பக், கொல்லன்
விசைத்துவாங்கு துருத்தியின் வெய்ய உயிராக்,
கொடுநுகத்து யாத்த தலைய, கடுநடைக்,
கால்கடுப்பு அன்ன கடுஞ்செலல் இவுளி,
பால்கடை நுரையின் பரூஉ மிதப்பு அன்ன,
வால்வெண் தெவிட்டல் வழிவார் நுணக்கம்
சிலம்பி நூலின் நுணங்குவன பாறிச்,
சாந்துபுலர் அகலம் மறுப்பக் காண்தகப்
புதுநலம் பெற்ற வெய்துநீங்கு புறவில்,
தெறிநடை மரைக்கணம் இரிய மனையோள்,
ஐதுணங்கு வல்சி பெய்துமுறுக்கு உறுத்த
திரிமரக் குரலிசைப் கடுப்ப, வரிமணல்
அலங்குகதிர் திகிரி ஆழி போழ,
வரும்கொல்- தோழி!- நம் இன்உயிர்த் துணைஎனச்,
சில்கோல் எல்வளை ஒடுக்கிப் பல்கால்
அருங்கடி வியனகர் நோக்கி,
வருந்துமால் அளியள் திருந்திழை தானே.

Drive on, charioteer! The light of day is fading! / The horses of swift pace, their swiftness like the wind, / their heads yoked to the curved crossbar, / breathing hotly like the forge bellows pulled with force by a smith / as a skilled driver adjusts the restraining reins; / their pale white frothing, like thick, floating froth from churned milk, / dripping down in fine streaks, scattering fine like threads of a spider's web, / spotting their chests dried of sandalwood— / in the scrubland where heat has departed, having attained new, lovely beauty, / so that herds of bounding-gaited antelopes scatter, / as the shining-spoked wheel cuts through the patterned sand / like the sound of the grinding-stone turned by the housewife / who has fed it with finely dried grain, / will he come, friend, our sweet life's companion?' / she says, sliding back her sparse, radiant bangles, / looking again and again toward the well-guarded, wide mansion, / suffering—ah, pitiable is she of refined jewels!
