Her love, her innocence, her grace, her gentle nature, / words that melt the very bones, and all her other charms, / embracing them all together with a single mind, / we are here today. But tomorrow, / as the summer wind pours through narrow, fine holes bored by bees / in swinging bamboos climbing over thickets, / like the soft tune from a straight pipe of a cowherd / walking behind his herds moving towards water, / in the arduous wasteland smelling of wild plants where honey sweetens the groves, / will we lodge—O my heart!— / in some small hamlet of fair dwellings forgotten by rain-drops, / where swollen clusters wrapped in tender leaves of the blooming mahua tree / shed hollow pearls onto the red earth, like open quivers bound up, / while remembering the distressful, bewildered look / and the sulking of our beloved / of dense bracelets on her forearms and low-falling, dark tresses / flourishing like dark clouds adorned with flowers?
