பாடு உலந்தன்றே, பறைக்குரல் எழிலி;
தண்அறல் பருகித் தாழ்ந்துபட் டனவே;
Sprinkling to cool the face of the earth with cool showers,
the drum-voiced cloud has ceased its downpour;
on the bushes, the thorn-sharp red buds of the wild jasmine
and the dense clusters of the wild lime untie their bonds together;
the forest has grown quiet;
in the low-lying hollows, having grazed upon the green shoots of the white gloriosa lily
looking like broken ivory tusks, and the leaves of the arukam grass,
the noble blackbuck antelope, embracing his loving doe with jaunty gait,
drinks the cool stream and lies down low.
Are they like this—live long, my friend!—
those riches he would earn there,
which he described, showing the large branches
of the wild jasmine that blossoms around
the low chaste-tree by our home, saying:
"I will return in that season"?
