In the water-glistening morning when the rainy season has yielded its fruit, / alongside cool, pleasant tracts spread with fine gravel, / harness gently the spirited horses with pale manes / whose swift gallop is like a flight of swans with rows of wings; / firmly gripping the reins together, / as the many-spoked wheels that press deeply cut through the soft road, / mount your tall, well-equipped chariot made by rule of craft, / that confounds the wind and outstrips the range of the eye, / and drive it with great speed, O you who gain fine victory! / So that the braided binding may be loosened on the lightning-like hair / of the woman who has tears streaming from kohl-lined eyes, / suffering intense longing, pallor of separation spread over her fine complexion, / in the pleasant, good village situated in the pastoral tract, / in the dim twilight after day has departed, / when the agile-paced young doe, disdaining thick foliage, / leaps unharmed in joy at union with the stag, / and a soft-winged swarm of handsome-winged bees / gladly hums upon the pollen of sweet mullai flowers.
