இல்வந்து நின்றோற் கண்டனள் அன்னை;

Listen to this amusing thing, my friend! At daybreak,
striking down the fierce hound, embracing its strong suckling pig,
checking the youthful huntsmen from approaching, and keeping with its litter,
a sow of four teats rushed forth to leave the forest;
noticing the fearless wild boar standing facing the men in a narrow craggy pass,
the hill-man drew near, yet [said]: ‘The sharp-tipped arrow fitted to the bow
resembles our mighty warrior of great victory who blocks an arduous pass,
not letting an army advance though having the power to surge in assault!’
and without shooting, he turned back. The lord of such a hill country—
his flower-dropping garland draped on his lifted, rounded, mighty shoulders,
tangled, snapped, and unloosened by the dense thickets,
swaying with beauty like the halter-rope on a bull’s hump—
was seen standing at our house by mother;
swiftly she looked into my face
and saying, ‘You are indeed fine!’ she turned away smiling!
