தூதும் சென்றன; தோளும் செற்றும்;
ஓதி ஒண்நுதல் பசலையும் மாயும்;

Messages also have gone; our shoulders will fill out;
the pallor of separation on the bright forehead of dark tresses will vanish;
if he hears of our hard suffering that swells with grief
as we languish and our tight ornaments loosen,
he will not linger there, even if he were to obtain the wealth of the Nandas—
may you live long, my friend! When the Kōcar with adorned chariots swift as the wind,
with victorious banners, beat the drum of sweet sounds with a drumstick
at the assembly hall under the ancient, branching banyan tree,
and shattered the frontier of their enemies, because Mōkūr
did not yield, the newly arrived Moriyas came with an army of great horses;
beyond the pass in the rocks where sparkling white torrents cascade,
hewn so the wheels of their adorned chariots could roll,
leaving the noble elephant of spotless white tusks unharmed
from its mouth, a fierce tiger of hard-to-reach hue,
having gored it so that the wide earth shuddered, roams fearless
and dwells in the teak-fragrant woods; traversing such a never-ending, vast distance,
he has made our pretty bangles, filed with a saw, loosen from their place!
