உள்ளோர்க்கு எல்லாம் பெருநகை யாக;
Though well aware of her rarity, exceeding the gold
preserved and kept by the ancient Vēḷir
in the well-guarded fort of Pāḻi belonging to Nannaṉ Utiyaṉ,
even when I said, "Let us not approach her,"
you would not agree to that—
may you perish, O heart, may you live!
Like the stone vanishing in the mystical, dark cave
upon the tall, huge mountain tossed by fierce winds,
in a wide expanse where cool rain creeps over low waters,
you, longing daily for the good chest of that tender young woman,
reaching by night through fearful narrow paths where snakes crawl
and yet not obtaining her, with eyes faded so as to evoke pity,
took upon yourself desolation, becoming a great laughingstock
to everyone dwelling in the world;
and as desire rose beyond restraint,
you have given me ceaseless, unbearable sorrow!
