வேலும் விளங்கின; இளையரும் இயன்றனர்;
தாரும் தையின; தழையும் தொடுத்தன;
The spears have shone; the youths are ready;
the garlands are woven; the leaf-garments are bound.
As rain waters arrived, dispelling the waterless heat of the land,
the trees, having shed their withered leaves, put forth short tender shoots;
the groves grew dense with honey, appearing
as if decked with fragrant flowers all at once; and the forest,
cleared of cold frost, has become exceedingly fair.
On the following day, the messenger has arrived
at the evening hour when moonlight spreads like milk;
and you, having an unperturbed mind,
accept my words with love—O worthy woman cherished by my heart!
Even if the courtyard dries up, even if the vayalai vine withers,
even if the soft boughs of the nocci bend low with curved clusters,
enduring the grief of your mother, who loved you far more than yourself
and is more innocent than you, and beholding the tiger-like nobility
of your elder brothers, remain firm, and let your breasts be embraced once more!
