As the sun disk fades and the mountain takes on color,
as swarms of bees pounce upon flowers and hum, and atop
the mangrove littoral woods the flock of herons cries aloud,
as shore-playing crabs crowd into their burrows,
as the roaring of waves subsides and boats cease their toil,
as the red evening appears and the anril bird, joined with its mate,
shelters inside the fronds of the palmyra upon the sand dunes,
as fragrant petals of backwater flowers hide their faces, and in grove-girt homes
the fragrant blossoms of the laurel take on a golden hue,
slowly letting daylight pass away, as nightfall arrives—
how will she be? But as for me, unable to leave,
in the dead of night when ghouls roam and the ancient, rough-beaked bird
roosting in the ancient tree suddenly screeches,
I have yearned for the awareness of the loveless man
who caused such heart-melting sorrow.
