In the fresh flood that rose touching the high banks of the vast, wide expanse,
prayed to at dusk yesterday,
embracing a lead-float like a rut-strong bull elephant,
casting off wet ornaments along with young maiden companions
whose thick dark tresses smell of wild lemon,
you plunged into the water and played; unable to turn away
each time you gazed upon their uplifted, beautiful, rain-soft eyes,
as desire excessively mounted, losing your sense of shame,
you made sport, they say, O lord of the agricultural lands! And that
has become a town gossip as loud as the night-time roar of liquor-rich feast-rice
in Ari-maṇavāyil Uṟattūr of the golden-ornamented enemies,
who fell before the great might of Evvi of the unfailing sword,
lord of Nīṭūr with streets of lute-music, when they refused his command!
Now, that is no grief indeed to us;
only the oath you swore beside Murukaṉ of fierce war
at Alaivāy of glorious gem-lamps, where peacocks,
frightened by the roaring sounds raised by joyful plowmen
in neighboring fields, fly up to roost in his fearful sacred domain!
