வந்தன்று அம்ம, தானே;
Slowly, like the ruined face of day when the cool-rayed disc fades
and its radiance is wholly lost,
the brightness of her forehead hides away.
Yet in order to bring back wealth through effort,
with an unyielding mind and a blade as companion,
in the wide expanses of the deep wilderness path
where a bright-striped tiger with a hollow-sounding roar,
unable to bear the intense hunger of its gaping-mouthed mate,
watches for the coming of a boar with thick bristles,
like the fibers of the dark palmyra, and small eyes;
in the mottled shade of hollow trees,
where wayfarers walking the road rest and wait;
though he traversed the dry, burning wilderness,
he has not yet returned to our side, O adorned woman!
Devouring the clusters of flowers of the flame-bright palāśa,
which resemble the battle-burning neck
of a valiant fighting cock that dwells in a home,
with its sharp beak and lovely thick plumage like kindle flame,
the season of summer has arrived,
shedding and scattering dry petals!
Yet he does not return, friend, our lover!
