செய்வது தெரிந்திசின்- தோழி! அல்கலும்,
அகலுள் ஆண்மை அச்சறக் கூறிய
சொல்பழுது ஆகும் என்றும் அஞ்சாது,
ஒல்குஇயல் மடமயில் ஒழித்த பீலி
வான்போழ் வல்வில் சுற்றி, நோன்சிலை
அவ்வார் விளிம்பிற்கு அமைந்த நொவ்வியல்
கனைகுரல் இசைக்கும் விரைசெல் கடுங்கணை
முரண்மிகு வடுகர் முன்னுற, மோரியர்
தென்திசை மாதிரம் முன்னிய வரவிற்கு
விண்ணுற ஓங்கிய பனிஇருங் குன்றத்து,
எண்கதிர்த் திகிரி உருளிய குறைத்த
அறைஇறந்து, அவரோ சென்றனர்
பறையறைந் தன்ன அலர்நமக்கு ஒழித்தே.

Consider what is to be done, my friend! Daily / having spoken with manliness inside the home to dispel my fears,
without fearing that his words might become false, / beyond the rock cut by the rolling eight-spoked wheels
for the arrival of the Mauryas, advancing towards the southern quarter, / preceded by the fierce, warlike Vaṭukar
with swift, sharp arrows that sound with a deep buzz / set upon the lovely curved edges of durable bows,
their strong bows bound with bamboo strips and feathers shed / by soft peahens of drooping gait,
passing the high, sky-reaching, chilly, dark mountains, / he has departed,
leaving us with public scandal loud as beaten drums.
