தெண்நீர் ஆலி கடுக்கும் முத்தமொடு
மூவேறு தாரமும் ஒருங்குடன் கொண்டு

Taking the white tusks of elephants felled in battle / by the huntsman of the great mountain slope
with tight-bound arrows and a strong bow; / and along with pearls resembling clear hailstones
that spilled when the sharp tips of bright tusks broke / as he unearthed fine gold and unsealed dense gems
that sparkled to clash with the eyes on slopes shining with water; / collecting together these three different tributes,
with sandalwood as his carrying pole, / crowned with a chaplet of vēṅkai tied with sweet fibre,
for the lord of that country who comes down, / my father has agreed to give [me] in marriage,
with the flourishing wealth of sweet jackfruit trees; / the scandal-mouthed, whispering town also speaks of him;
praising my curved, rounded shoulders, / mother too says, ‘It is he!’; and we,
praying, ‘May the appointed wedding day come quickly!’, / join our gentle fingers with lovely joints
and lift our offerings to the deity dwelling in the house!
