"He will leave, departing so that we remain behind,"
we thought, and while our sorrowing heart suffered ruining grief,
so that our distress was dispelled and cast far away,
—in the wilderness path where, to relieve the fierce hunger of his sharp-toothed, flesh-smiling mate,
a red dog sire cuts the running thigh of a stag while the simple doe roams the forest wailing,
and pants, distressed by the sun’s fierce heat;
and wayfarers wearing dried, torn umbrellas of many tatters, resembling the dark skin of kino trees with black tiger stripes,
cast aside onto rocks, climb high trees,
while eagles, separated from their flock and seeking a male [stag], gaze down at [the dog's] moving ears—
our lover said: "She too, with bamboo-like arms
and eyes dark with kohl like blue water lilies, will come with us!"
Come here, friend! Let us embrace him many times.
