Go then; let your purpose prosper! With a handsome, broad chest rubbed with sandalwood from your mountain,
wearing an attractive chaplet of fresh flowers from the hanging boughs of hillside kino trees,
that rivals the beauty of Murukaṉ,
you who come every day when grief intensifies in the burnt-slash field of bent millet!
Because you saw our solitude on the slope of ripening fruit,
you have made light of us. In the long, dark mountain where cruel men draw near,
where white-gleaming waterfalls roar along narrow paths
and plunge down fearful slopes of sheer cliffs—if the father of an infant monkey,
to relieve the weary hunger of a tender-headed female monkey, should merely touch a fruit flake,
it seems a great crime on this chill-abounding hillside,
just like the mango grove of women [forbidden by Naṉṉaṉ]—
such is the father’s guard over her whose hair sheds flawless pollen,
she of lovely, sweet speech!
