Every time the swaying wind shakes
the waving, lovely leaves of the red-topped plantain tree growing on the slopes,
it strokes the broad back of a sleeping elephant
in the good mountain country of our lord! Bathing with him in the waterfall,
plucking many-petalled blue water lilies from the deep pool,
and happily sporting in the fragrance-wafting grove
where swarms of bees hum on the sweet-flowering vēṅkai tree—
all these seem difficult now, lovely friend!
Though she knows that the millet with large ears, beautified like sugarcane,
plowed by my brothers on the ridge of the black rocks,
has ripened so that parrots descend, she does not seem
to send us there saying 'Go!'. Excessively,
my mother devoid of virtue looks again and again
at my plump, youthful breasts adorned with faint beauty spots,
and at my soft, thick-growing tresses.
