O lord of great renown from the agricultural landscape!
Depart without cherishing me!
O lord of a fine town with rice-stocked streets,
where along the wide pool, by the rotang, the thorny boughs of the īṅkai
with soft-headed fresh blossoms stretch forth
to stroke the tender shoots of the mango that has borne fruit,
where the feeding egret sleeps in the fertile fields encircled by water,
and the wetland tortoise, creeping over the bent stalks of field sugarcane,
basks in the fresh sunshine!
Is this your noble dignity? A woman of flawless,
moon-like bright forehead and shining jewels,
saying contemptuous words,
looking with distress from her red, beautiful-petaled, rain-like cool eyes,
snapped your cool, fragrant garland
and sulked with you—and creating a petty grudge,
she crossed our sand-filled street.
