‘Is there anything else now? Do not fear!’—
embracing so that adorned beauty grew, he who bound my heart
went away; thinking of the path he took, day after day,
with eyes brimming with tears like diving, fighting carp fish,
sighing faintly and hotly,
suffering as longing assailed me night and day,
with the brightness of my forehead vanishing like the moon swallowed by the snake—
though he departed craving wealth, leaving us here who have none but him,
he will return showing grace—may you live, my friend!—
he who crossed the mountains of soaring rock
where crows, with muffled cries like spies walking stealthily,
having drunk the blood from gaping wounds
of those slain when arrows were shot by relentless wayfarers,
in the parched jungle tracts where snakes wither for lack of flesh
resembling purse-strings from which great treasures have been emptied,
fly to where there are dwellings.
