"'When the rain's task in the vast sky is finished,
spreading a midday darkness that resembles night,
and the cold season of smoke-colored form departs;
and eager to feed on the nectar of flowers,
jumping so that immature petals fall like the sharp-tipped,
white teeth of women with laughing faces and dyed nails resembling the budded flame-of-the-forest,
scattering them as they drop;
like fine rods of silver cut and falling
to adorn a golden plate,
whenever the swarms of humming bees blow [into blossoms],
the fragrant blossoms from the tall branches of the bottle-brush tree fall upon the white-silk-cotton flowers;
and the buzzing dragonflies hum with the sound of a lute string plucked and released,
producing the ceased melody of the vilari tune;
in the lovely spring season when the trees flourish,
in mango trees teeming with blossoms that resemble glowing sunlight,
to listen along with me to the cries raised by the cuckoo,
we will return'—did the season not arrive there?
Looking gently and reflecting thus we remained; yet as desired,
like thought at the place of contemplation,
our lover has arrived and stood before us! Abandoning us,
where did it go indeed, that pining yellowing disease
which for many days tormented me so that mother knew,
and spread over my fine forehead?
