"Having covered the victory-bearing drums with the hide
of an unyielding, fierce bull, making them roar deeply with thunderous sound,
we have received tribute from the land, O charioteer!
With an uproar rising like the roaring sea,
casting down downpours like the long trunks of mighty bull elephants,
clouds gathering dense like a herd of dark cow elephants
scatter swift drops accompanied by hailstones like the playing-pieces
that women with bent wrists shake and toss in play;
the sky has begun to rain!
Resembling the flying formation of bright-winged swans in the sky,
four swift-paced horses are harnessed together to our tall car with its seat-knob;
without checking its rapid speed,
while flocks of peafowl call in the wide field caught in the rainy season,
let the sturdy-rimmed wheel cut through the damp ground
and drive it on, so that here I may behold her—
she of flower-bright, lovely, tranquil, kohl-lined eyes,
rich, abundant tresses, and delicate, small brow!"
