Laughter is indeed pleasant!
O man of a fertile town where, like the wet plaster on a wall in the rainy season,
the short-winged male heron with feathers erect,
aiming at the kayal fish resembling a white silver foil,
watches slowly, gazing upon the swift waters flowing over
the strong-mouthed, curved weir made by joyful, noisy farmers filled with toddy
who staked short pegs of kāñci, plaited together many fine stems
of sweet, tender sugarcane, and stuffed it with green stalks of large-field paddy!
We do not hold it against you at all.
Accompanied by your bard with a well-tuned, fine yāḻ,
while the eyes of mud-smeared, tightly strapped drums throb and resound,
you drank toddy with your band of companions in pleasure
and did not come to our house; on the day you returned to your house,
the young woman with small bangles in that house rejoiced,
greater than the joy of the garland-chested king
who seized the towns of enemy monarchs, capturing many tuskers
and swift horses, having defeated in fine battle Kiḷḷi Vaḷavaṉ,
who had pitched camp in a foreign land with an ocean of an army,
in Kūdal with streets abounding in mansions belonging to Paḻaiyaṉ Māṟaṉ,
who possesses long chariots and ornament-adorned elephants!
