வழங்குநர் இன்மையின் பாடுஆன் றன்றே;

In the backwaters, blue water lilies together with small clusters of neytal fold close,
and the surging tides fail not to bring up cresting waves;
at the ghat, as the crab with big forked claws going aside
leaves its wet burrow in the dark mud,
activity has ceased because no travellers pass by;
without ordering the thick-legged mules yoked under curved crossbars
to be harnessed to your tall chariot of well-cast bells,
as a favour to her of high-uplifted, charming, rain-like eyes,
pray stay the night and then depart, lord of the great waters!
Where, steering clear of darting sharks in the bright dark expanse,
the fishermen of white boats who dive for right-spiralled chanks
burst into a roar of resounding conches with a clamorous sound,
welcomed by bustling Koṟkai, as they descend—
there, beside the high ridge of heaped sand,
behold, our small good village appears!
