Mango trees have yielded rich sprouts; the cuckoo / sings sweet and pleasant in varied notes from the bough; / having shed old leaves, on great branches where buds open, / swarms of bees hum like the vibrating strings / of a pālai lute touched by a master with powerful life; / staying in cool groves where pollen falls on pure sandy dunes / abutting clear pools, the lover / forgets his rich mansion in this ripe spring— / if it has indeed arrived of itself, / shall we go, friend, and show him our distress / of loosened, shining bangles, and show our sulking, saying: / 'While we are all alone, you, / longing for gold, without grace, / being thus is not fitting'?
