To relieve the distress of his fasting mate / who lay with desire in a grove of white buds / mingled with curved-thorn īṅkai and cane, / having felled a large-tusked elephant victoriously, / dragging it to redden the wide rock, stretching out after crouching, / on the narrow path where grass was trodden where the reeking tiger rolled, / unable to walk in the thick dark forest, / a herd of great bull-elephants join their trunks and turn back; / though he has traversed the great forest beyond the clusters of sweet-fleshed jackfruit trees, / he will truly not remain unmindful for long / letting your bamboo-like shoulders adorned with fine jewels suffer; / he will grant [his return] to your gaze, / like cool, fragrant blue water lilies that blossom bursting their calyx / in a sweet-water pond brimming after heavy rains, / swaying in the wind, your cool eyes like choice petals.
