'With tear-spilling kohl-rimmed eyes and yellowed shoulders, / ruined so greatly that others notice, every day / our lover, not knowing our nature of living in concealment, / has delayed indeed!'—why are you despondent, / O friend?—he has taken along with him / our glorious beauty, like the Veḷiyam town of Vāṉavarampaṉ! / He who traversed the wilderness path across the great mountain, / where, like the sound of instruments rising atop a great rock / played by dancers resting at the crossroads in the difficult wasteland, / a tall-legged elephant that lost its desired cow / roars competing with the clouds on the slope dreaded by spirits; / and where the bright smoke of forest clearing engulfing the old mounds / of green stalks of fork-eared varaku millet of Puḷḷi of unfailing, fine fame and great liberality, / mingles with the spray of the waterfall!
