Where low-branched marutam trees adorn the water-encircled wide threshing floor,
the todder-drunk farmhands break open the stacks of sheaves, turn the bulls' heads,
and the chaff blown away by the fierce wind
swarms into the brackish inlets, blinding the eyes of little fish;
and when the pure white salt of the fisherfolk at the cold harbor of the wide sea is ruined,
they grow enraged, confront the field plowers in conflict,
and engage in a battle, flinging thick mud at each other;
seeing this, the white-haired elders untie their bound hands
and appease the fishermen by giving them mature, aged toddy—
resembling the shade of gold-ornamented Evvi!
Having spent yesterday in a fragrant, cool grove
with a maiden of fair forehead and well-shaped, bamboo-like shoulders endowed with beauty,
knowing that you broke your word to her,
our girl, who is like a tormenting spirit, now weeps with tear-filled eyes.
