Men of wrathful gaze, whose bows are sturdy and strung taut / by pulling back the fine horn-tips, shoot straight-pointed arrows; / remembering his fallen mate that perished when struck by their arrow, / while young fawns of unequal sizes frisk at his side, / a twisted-horned blackbuck is struck with sorrow; / racked by distress and refusing even a mouthful of food, / without drinking the scarce water from the neytal marsh pool, / he groans and closes his eyes like a man pierced by a blade. / Across this desolate desert tract, scorched dry of moisture, / as I make my solitary way, far more tearful than mine, / what will become of them?— / the eyes of our beloved with blossom-rich tresses, / desired by flower-seeking bees that crave them, thinking: / 'They resemble matching blossoms in a pool of clear water'?
