Thinking not even of me who nurtured and raised her, / with gossip rising at once in village and settlement, / boldly venturing with him into the forests and wilderness tracts, / crossing many countries and lands, / believing in the beauty of the chaplet worn by that youth, / you have withered—may you flourish, O vayalai vine! / Day after day, as the creeping branches with many offshoots swayed, / yielding tender shoots to gather on her hips, / with her fine, crafted bracelets slipping in the splashing water, / drawing deep, heavy vessel-fulls of water, / she of fine, gentle eyes would look at her mother's face / and move about daily, her anklets chiming. / Who else will you now get / to feed you ample water and cherish you? How pitiful you are!
