Proclaiming the heaps of salt born from saltpans,
traveling to distant lands of the dust-covered path,
is the caravan-herd life of salt merchants with dense rods truly good?
Her curved, curly tuft rolling completely back,
her delicate, broad loins adorned with beauty,
swaying at every supple bend beneath her multi-strand floral girdle,
she called out in every settlement: “O villagers! Rice and salt are of equal measure!
Will you not buy?”
When I stopped her slightly, saying: “O woman with bamboo-like shoulders
and a lovely, sunken navel! We do not know the price of the salt that lives on your body,”
she looked at me with hostile gaze from her large, dark-lined eyes shot with red,
and said, “Who are you to stop us?”
With a gentle smile, she turned to move away and stood still—
to that maiden of manifold excellence, adorned with a few rows of white bangles,
my heart was left behind!
