I have seized you, lord of the wetlands! Do not leave!
When golden-ornamented Nannaṉ with banner-adorned chariots devastated Puṉṉāṭu,
in Pāḻi with streets resonant with the music of the yāḻ,
Āay Eyinaṉ said, 'Fear not!',
and fighting with Miñili of unyielding martial skill,
gave his own life, not leaving his word unfulfilled.
You gave your word, reassuring me before the fierce, implacable deity,
and grasped my soft, rounded forearm, yet you transgressed that word!
Though your loving heart grew ever more,
you do not offer your chest to me, but have become another's!
Now I will not let you go!
Just as the deep-water Kāvērī carried off and concealed
the dark-strengthened Atti, who desired to dance adorned,
leaving the she-monkey [Ātimanti] weeping with eyes streaming cold tears and lamenting greatly,
I too fear that your wife will snatch you away!
Return to me my beauty, which is like Vañci city
of the king of fierce rage who, having attacked with fury
until the Āryas screamed in distress, carved his bent bow emblem
upon the ancient, celebrated northern mountain,
and bound the wrathful monarchs with fetters—and then depart!
