Since we have completed our task here
with an unflagging spirit rising ever higher,
rise up now swiftly—may you live, my heart!—
Swimming across the difficult arid wilderness with hostile borders,
where, as the sharp flames with shooting banners roused by the fierce wind
leap upon the slopes of mountain clefts,
crashing against flourishing tops so waving bamboos rattle,
the sound of splitting bamboo nodes frightens the herds of male deer;
and having crossed beyond it,
as the broad sun sinks touching the mountain and disappears,
and women of bright bangles light white wicks in their houses,
while the red-legged male pigeon of short gait
calls to its beloved mate in the tall, wide mansion
in the sorrowful evening that arrives with loneliness—
reaching her as she weeps, asking, “Where could he be?”,
let us embrace her many times, easing the pining sickness
that spreads over her bamboo-like plump shoulders
on the mountain smelling of kūtaḷam on the slopes of the fertile Cirumalai,
where rain clouds play, belonging to generous Ceḻiyaṉ of tall chariots adorned with jewels!
