In the wasteland tract devoid of human traffic, as rays scorch
and spreading tall flames consume the tall trunks of yā trees,
where the slicing wind roars in the bare, high branches,
looking upon the face of his mate who perches hungering for carrion,
the male vulture, with terrifying red ears resembling embedded flesh,
has his wings scorched and blackened in the heat.
In the expansive expanse where tall bamboos tower, prolonged by summer,
if the wealth of work that you strive to achieve, which binds you,
can only be obtained by parting from the dark-complexioned woman
with many-petaled, rain-like eyes, then do not depart!
Embracing her so that the courtyard of her upraised breasts swells
and her choice ornaments with many pendants jingle, rejoicing daily
in domestic duties along with her,
reflect, O worthy heart, and forget leaving!
