Midst heavy rain pouring with sweet-sounding thunder, / at midnight when all living beings are asleep, / unable to find a quarry in his hunt roving the forest, / he lies on a couch spread with a striped tiger skin: / the father of the hill maiden with honey-fragrant tresses and select jewels, / enclosed inside the cold-season house, O man of the hill country! / For your chest to be reached—as firm young breasts are pressed / and forearms with shining bangles curve round and clasp your back many times— / would be much sweeter / than standing long outside at midnight when many sleep, / leaning against the house tree so it bends, / enduring the chill, heartless north wind that blows and torments whenever one thinks of you / when you are lonely in your house, / waiting patiently, watching for an opportune moment!
